“Having spent my life as a proud “public school kid” – from kindergarten through my graduate degree – I have long considered our nation’s system of public education as having immeasurable value and deserving protection and nurture. Despite a strong desire for meaningful involvement in our evolving educational situation, there did not seem to be a natural transition into the field. It was upon receipt of an email outlining the Broad Residency that I felt I had found an optimal route to channel my prior professional and personal experiences into one that enhances our urban education system.”

David Lauck currently serves as director of finance and accounting for KIPP LA Schools, where he oversees the financial planning, budgeting, reporting and analysis functions for the organization. Lauck develops monthly, quarterly and any necessary interim financial reports for use and analysis by KIPP LA’s School Leaders, leadership team and Board of Directors. Additionally, he serves as the primary clearing point for all financial requests by governmental agencies, philanthropic partners, chartering authorities, as well as other internal and external constituencies. Lauck's other critical project areas include the transition of KIPP LA’s accounting software and development of the region’s financial budget and projections. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Lauck was a director at Babson Capital Management, where he was part of the Portfolio Management & Research group of Babson’s U.S. Bank Loan Team. In this role, he oversaw Babson’s investments in a variety of industries, as well as multi-million dollar portfolio of loans. Previously, Lauck worked as an equity and merger arbitrage analyst at Mangan & McColl Partners, where he provided quantitative and process analysis of and recommended investments for a multi-strategy hedge fund. Lauck also spent six years in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch. Lauck received a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in business administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia. Lauck is a participant in The Broad Residency in Urban Education (Class of 2009-2011), serving his two-year Residency at KIPP LA Schools.
